Should Roberto Luongo Have Skipped The All Star Game?

Rangers Jersey, The past couple of months haven\'t been a fun time to be a Vancouver Canucks fan. Ever since their superstar netminder Roberto Luongo went down with a groin injury the team has struggled mightily, playing below.500 hockey and steadily slipping down the standings in the Western Conference.

With the signing of Swedish superstar Mats Sundin the people of Vancouver had renewed hope that their Vancouver Canucks might be able to turn it around. Alas, though Sundin was being hailed as a savior immediately following the announcement of his signing, the realists knew that Sundin would take some time to get his game in order, following more than 7 months away from the game.

When Sundin didn\'t have the immediate impact that they had hoped for, fans began to pin their hopes on the imminent return of Roberto Luongo. Replacements Curtis Sanford, Corey Schneider and Rangers Jersey Jason LaBarbera had all failed to provide stellar netminding, and you could see that the team was playing with fragile confidence, unable to trust the men behind the pipes.

However, Canucks fans were again doomed to disappointment. Luongo looked shaky in his return against the Phoenix Coyotes, surrendering 3 brutal goals (4 in total) as his team was beaten easily by their Western Conference rivals. The next game against Columbus proved no better for Luongo as he gave up 5 goals in regulation and then lost in the shootout to rookie phenom Steve Mason. Luongo\'s third game finally saw him rounding into form, as he made several key saves against the high-flying San Jose Sharks. Unfortunately for Luongo he got little help, and he was helpless to prevent the eventual overtime winner by Patrick Marleau.

Next on the plate for Roberto Luongo? The NHL All Star Game. Luongo has decided he will attend the game in his hometown of Montreal, though it is likely he will give the skills competition a pass, not wanting to risk his newly healed groin.

Canucks fans are up in arms, some calling Luongo selfish for attending the game when he could risk his health, something that doesn\'t sit well with fans when the Canucks\' playoff hopes rest squarely on Roberto Luongo and his ability to get back to top form as quickly as possible.

All the more reason for Luongo to attend the All Star game Rangers Jersey I say. Luongo was just starting to show flashes of his usual brilliance in the Canucks last outing. However, because of a scheduling quirk, the Canucks will now have a full 8 day break before getting back to work next Wednesday. That is too long to have Luongo out when he Rangers Jersey is just starting to shake the rust off. The quality of chances he will face in the All Star game against the Eastern Conference\'s best shooters is some of the best practice he could get. Sure, he only plays one period, but you can bet he will face two game\'s worth of difficult chances during that stretch. The fact that he only plays 20 minutes and will skip the skills competition only makes the chance of aggravating his groin even more slim.

So, to all those who are complaining about Luongo\'s selfishness, give the guy a break. He has a chance to play in an All Star game in the city where he grew up in the arena of the fabled Montreal Canadiens, who are celebrating their 100th year in the NHL. Let him enjoy the moment.
